Two Victims Revealed in the Ivy League School Attack as Law Enforcement Persist in Hunt for Perpetrator.

Both young individuals who died in the weekend's violent attack at Brown University were honored at the start of the week – amid a widespread hunt for their killer persisted following the freeing by Rhode Island officials of the only individual detained in connection in the case.

Remembering Ella Cook

Ella Cook, a second-year scholar from Alabama, was described as “a wonderful, steady, devout, shining presence”, per the Cathedral Church of the Advent, Birmingham, which honored her memory at a ceremony on Sunday.

Her role included vice-president of Brown’s division of the campus GOP group, according to the organization. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt also shared words of sorrow publicly, remarking: “Words cannot express. Remembering her family and friends, particularly her mother and father.”

An International Student

The second fatality was an Uzbek national named MukhammadAziz Umurzokov, an Uzbek national in his initial year at the prestigious university, his family confirmed.

Umurzokov’s identity was officially acknowledged by the foreign office of Uzbekistan.

“He was exceptionally gentle, witty, and bright. His ambitions were lofty of entering the field of neurosurgery and helping people,” Samira Umurzokova, his sister said in a tribute.

What Happened

An additional nine individuals were hurt in the violent event in the engineering building of Brown’s university in Providence, during the university's examination week.

Law enforcement reported late Sunday that a man aged 24 detained in a search at a hotel about 17 miles from the campus earlier in the day was being released.

“A perpetrator remains free,” said the state's top prosecutor, Peter Neronha.

Neronha explained, “Investigations can lead one way, and then you must reassess and pursue a different angle, and this is precisely what occurred over the last 24 hours or so.”

Public Fear

Providence’s mayor, Brett Smiley, noted: “We know that this is likely to cause renewed concern for our community”.

The gunman opened fire inside a room in the building on over the weekend, discharging in excess of 40 shots from a 9mm pistol, a law enforcement official informed the Associated Press.

Police that searched the hotel found two handguns and two loaded 30-round magazines when the person of interest was taken into custody, the news agency reported.

The Wounded Victims

Among those wounded, one student was released from the hospital, said the university president, Christina Paxson. Seven others were in critical but stable condition, and another was critically ill, officials reported on Sunday.

A private school, a independent school in the city of Durham, said a former student, Kendall Turner, was one of the critically injured.

Further Tributes

Cook was honored at a church service in Birmingham on Sunday. A reverend stated, “Her presence was a wonderful, steady, pious glow not only in her youth... but at Brown she was a radiant presence in that specific location as well.”

Martin Bertao, Martin Bertao, posted a statement from the group. “She was famed for her courageous, valiant, and compassionate nature as she served her chapter and fellow classmates,” he said.

An American diplomat, Jonathan Henick, said he was “profoundly grieved” by the student's death in a tribute. “We offer our heartfelt sympathies to his relatives, companions, and peers and mourn the loss of his promising future.”

The fatal shooting at Brown, the seventh oldest in the US university with about thousands of bachelor's and 3,000 graduate students, happened during one of at least 392 mass shootings documented across the United States so far in the current year, according to records. Monday was the 349th day of the year.
