The Renowned Musician Encourages Backing to Get Palestinian Solidarity Track to UK Christmas No 1.
A campaign is aiming to propel a traditional song from Palestine to the top of the UK charts. The campaign seeks to provide aid to communities in Gaza while also showcasing Palestinian cultural expression.
A Chance for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who contributes to the track, stated that the release called 'Lullaby' represents a opportunity to show solidarity with Palestinians during the holidays. He remarked the potential for an surprise number one.
“It would be fantastic if that came to pass, yes,” he stated. “I wouldn't be completely disheartened if it doesn't manage to, Christmas singles are a category of their own.”
Defiant Message of Freedom and Dignity
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who performs on the adaptation of a traditional lullaby called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's resilient spirit.
“The song holds a profound significance for many individuals,” Barghouti shared. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a life of dignity that we are entitled to as Palestinians.”
Recording Origins and Contributing Musicians
The song was recorded after a solidarity show held in late summer. Originally intended to be captured during the live event, the performance was shelved during the concert due to the event running long.
The notable list of artists featured on Lullaby encompasses a selection of well-known figures from the industry. All participated in the earlier concert, which reportedly raised a significant sum for humanitarian aid.
Production and Release
Lullaby was produced by a trio of talented individuals. The single features a combination of the traditional Arabic lyrics with new English lyrics.
The organizers behind the campaign have stated that their goal is to collect the highest amount for a specific fund. These resources will be distributed to projects in Palestine through an established charity.
“We don’t have a specific target,” a spokesperson explained. “We will pursue whatever we can get. Naturally, the higher the total, the greater the impact. Every penny goes out to those in need in Gaza.”
The reality in the territory was characterized as its widespread damage, with a huge proportion of property said to be in ruins or severely impacted.
“Given that reality, a couple of million doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what truly matters is above all raising awareness for this issue and proving that another narrative exists.”
The single 'Lullaby' is set to be released this Friday. Additionally, a complete film of the solidarity show will be made available for streaming on a digital service from later in the month.
