Supporters Call for Custody of Individual Who Seized Ariana Grande
Devoted followers of the pop star are demanding that a person who leaped a barrier and grabbed the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good debut be detained or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating footage shows the individual from Australia bypassing photographers and lunging at Grande while the actors made its way down a promenade surrounded by fans.
Fellow actress Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the stunned performer away from Mr Wen, who was observed being removed of the premiere by security officers.
Mr Wen posted on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though legal records showed that he was scheduled to attend court on the next day. It is not clear if he was faced legal action.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who calls himself a "Controversial Figure", has invaded a performance. His Instagram profile features recordings of him interrupting other star-studded functions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney show in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers concert in the same location last winter.
"There needs to be action taken against him as this is clearly a criminal offence," commented an Instagram follower, in a response to a video Mr Wen posted of his behavior.
"You've done this repeatedly... how are you not behind bars?" one Instagram user questioned.
Fans Show Disapproval Over Ariana's Past Trauma
Several supporters criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had discussed suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a suicide bomb attack at the end of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and wounding hundreds.
"After everything she's faced... including the Manchester attack, you considered it entertaining to rush the barrier?" commented another comment on Instagram.
A number of fans also questioned guards at the gathering for not being vigilant enough; while some demanded online networks to block Mr Wen's content.
Aftermath and Event Details
In footage circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the man. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed reassuring her while Mr Wen was escorted away by staff.
Grande has not commented on the situation, and the rest of the event proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had assembled in a crowd of emerald and rose at the Wicked: For Good Asia-Pacific premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had waited for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a dual interpretation of the popular theatrical production Wicked, which revolves around the surprising friendship between two contrasting characters.
The musical itself is a spin-off of the 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a rosé glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were joined by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The initial film, Wicked, was the most successful film of 2024 in the UK, and earned ten Academy Award nods, securing a pair for best costume and artistic direction.
