19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 championships have been achieved on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with a win over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open title decider.

Medvedev, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a torrid year, winning just one win at the major tournaments and suffering a setback at the American major.

Medvedev's varied form on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his serve in especial - resulted in him dropping out of the top ten and finally separating with long-time coach Gilles Cervara.

Presently working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, Medvedev has steadily improved in the past month - climaxing in a tightly fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

This marks his maiden title following the Rome competition and initial on a hard surface from March of the previous year.

Victory also means the Russian has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one different events.

"For the first time I have attended a tournament with my children at once, so to get a trophy is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in dedication of my younger daughter Victoria, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had been defeated in his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching approach and frequent outbursts on the playing surface had prompted observers to question if his capacity to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the last few weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an better serving game.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair exchanged breaks in the second set before the Frenchman, bidding for his initial professional championship, gained dominance to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 initial break points in a close deciding set before the Russian secured a break to that score to serve for the match.

Suitably, he earned the win with a shot at the net, with his opponent failing to manage a shot after over two and a half hours.
