Preview this Revamped Classic Journey: A Complimentary Demo for DQ7 Reimagined Lands Shortly.
Enthusiasts anticipating the launch of Dragon Quest 7 Reimagined won't have to wait the full month. A free-to-play demo version will go live on the seventh of January, offering a generous glimpse into the game's opening hours. Critically, all save data achieved within this demo is eligible to be carried over directly into the main game upon its eventual launch.
Beyond Just a Straightforward Remake: The Thorough Transformation
This project is a comprehensive reimagining of the seminal year 2000 JRPG, first released as Dragon Quest VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. Taking a distinct departure from recent Dragon Quest remakes, like the recently launched HD-2D iterations, this version embraces a striking 3D aesthetic. The world have been crafted to look like detailed model sets, with party members sporting a whimsical chibi-esque look.
"Even with the 3DS port, the story was still quite lengthy. Therefore, we came to a determination that we wanted to streamline the story, [and] craft an experience for contemporary gamers."
Significant Gameplay Improvements & Updates
Square Enix has implemented numerous changes to update the original gameplay loop. Among these are:
- Quick Field Encounters: Taking a cue from modern role-playing games, low-level enemies can now be defeated directly on the exploration screen without entering a full turn-based battle sequence.
- Variable Combat Speed: Gamers have the option to accelerate battle sequences to rapidly power through easier fights.
- New Vocation System: A completely new character role has been added for this reimagining. Furthermore, characters gain the capacity to master a second job, greatly expanding customization options.
These alterations seek to tackle one of the 2000 title's common criticisms: its considerable length. That initial main quest could easily take more than 100 hours to see through. This reimagined edition was specifically reworked to enhance flow and reduce any bloat.
