Manchester United Poised to Secure Germany Forward Lea Schüller away from Bayern Munich

Manchester United are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific German striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from the Frauen-Bundesliga champions.

A Marquee Signing for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her deal, has been a prolific goalscorer for her club and the national team. She has netted over 100 goals for the German giants and found the net 54 times in 82 caps for Germany. Her arrival is viewed as a major signing for the WSL team.

Her exit from Bayern has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while thanking the club's supporters after a victory over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. According to multiple sources, the formalities for the move have now been completed.

Reliable Goalscoring to Strengthen United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing should represent a major uplift to United’s attacking options. Schüller has been highly consistent in front of goal in the Bundesliga.

  • For seven consecutive seasons, up to and including the last term, she reached at least a double-figures tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in 2021-22 season with a haul of 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of the German international comes at a time when the club seem to be building momentum.

Recent performances feature securing a place in the European knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the winter break has brought additional business:

  1. The signing of Sweden right-back Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The contract extension for Japanese midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, who has become fan favourite since joining in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a senior figure stated: “Miyazawa is now a vital part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill allows her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has joined from a side from the NWSL, added: “You can feel how much the club have progressed in the last few years, competing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
