New information has come to light regarding the shocking passing of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and visual artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose remains were located at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.

The Alarm

As detailed in an account quoting a person close to the family, a massage therapist arriving for an session initially became concerned after failing to get inside the residence. This individual then reached out to the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives close by.

Upon entering the house, Romy found her father's body. Reports state she then exited the property overwhelmed with grief, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was there as well. A companion who had accompanied her contacted 911. Subsequently, emergency responders found Michele Singer Reiner's body.

Criminal Charges

Law enforcement have formally accused the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of murder in the first degree, along with the charge related to a weapon, reportedly a knife. He is now being held without bail.

Disputed Reports

The person close to the family challenged several earlier details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed emergency responders that her brother Nick resided in a separate structure on the property, she did not identify him as a suspect at that time.

Furthermore pushed back against published claims that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been unusually "worried" about Nick's conduct in recent weeks. The source claimed the family was "accustomed to working through [Nick's] problems together."

The statement also extends to reports of alleged "erratic" conduct by Nick at a gathering thrown by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. While the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that suggestions of a "major confrontation" between the two were not correct.

Investigation Timeline

As stated by law enforcement officials, the coroner had not yet established at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts suggested the condition of their bodies implied they had been deceased for a period of time.

Nick Reiner was arrested at around 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the Exposition Park, about 15 miles from the family home. He was scheduled to have a hearing on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until no sooner than Wednesday.
