Eurovision Was Once a Whimsical Delight – Yet It Has Become a Cynical Way to Gloss Over Warfare.

Yet, there has been nothing “normal” regarding the widespread destruction in Gaza, where entire family lineages have been wiped out and the number of child amputees exceeds that of any other region in the world. Nothing normal about numerous doctors arriving back from a landscape of rubble with testimonies of children being deliberately targeted.
A Hell on Earth Despite a Announced Cessation of Hostilities
The Gaza Strip continues to be an utter catastrophe. Essential medical supplies are not getting in those in need, and groups like Amnesty International have stated that violations are ongoing. Overlook the situation that global media are still denied independent reporting in Gaza. None of this, apparently, should be permitted to obstruct of Eurovision’s self-proclaimed spirit of unity.
The Pageant Proceeds Amidst Staggering Tragedy
Eurovision marks seven decades next year – almost double the average life expectancy of someone in Gaza today. The broadcast will air, but it will find it impossible to reclaim the whimsical pleasure it once represented. A competition that was originally built on harmony has transformed into a blatant mechanism to provide a cultural veneer for conflict.
