Democrats Denounce Trump After He States They Should Face Death Penalty

Lawmakers from the Democratic party demonstrated fury after Donald Trump alleged a coalition of Democratic legislators of being "traitors" and stated they should be detained and sentenced "with execution" following their release of a controversial video.

The Content That Triggered the Dispute

The clip, released on Tuesday, showcases six Democratic congress members who formerly worked in armed forces or intelligence capacities.

"Like us, you all took an pledge to protect and support this constitution," the representatives affirmed in the brief video. "And right now, the dangers to our governing document don't only come from abroad, but from within our own country. Our regulations are explicit, you can reject illegal orders, you can reject improper directives, you must reject improper directives. No one has to carry out orders that break the statutes or our constitution."

Donald Trump's Angry Reaction

The clip reportedly trigger a heated reply from the previous commander-in-chief.

On the following morning, Trump posted on Truth Social: "It's called SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL. Each one of these turncoats to our United States should be ARRESTED AND PUT ON TRIAL."

In an additional post, he wrote: "This is really serious, and Risky to our United States. Their comments cannot be enabled to remain. SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR FROM TRAITORS!!! LOCK THEM UP???"

In a third post, he continued: "SEDITIOUS BEHAVIOR, punishable by DEATH!" He also shared a comment that read: "HANG THEM GEORGE WASHINGTON WOULD !!"

Party Leaders Answer

Following Trump's remarks on that day, Democratic leadership published a combined statement condemning the comments.

"Partisan aggression has no role in the United States," they declared. "Representatives who appeared in the video all acted our United States with tremendous national pride and distinction. We unequivocally condemn Donald Trump's disgusting and risky calls for execution against members of Congress, and urge GOP representatives to strongly do the same."

The Democratic leaders also stated that they had been in communication with security officials "to guarantee the safety of these members and their relatives."

"Donald Trump must right away delete these unhinged social media posts and withdraw his violent language before he leads to violence," the announcement continued.

Representatives' Defiant Answer

The representatives who appeared in the video also issued a response.

"We are former service members and national security professionals who care for this country and took an oath to protect and defend the founding document of the United States," they said. "Our pledge is permanent, and we intend to maintain it. No threat, coercion, or promotion of aggression will deter us from that fundamental duty."

"The most revealing aspect is that the ex-president considers it subject to penalty by death for us to restate the legal requirements," they added. "Military personnel should recognize that we have their protection as they carry out their pledge to the national charter and duty to obey only proper directives. It is not only the right thing to do, but also our responsibility."

They stated: "Every American must come together and censure the president's demands for our death and partisan aggression. This is a time for ethical certainty."

Further Political Comments

The Senate Democratic leader also censured Trump's statements and published on online networks: "We must be absolutely clear: the former president is demanding the execution of government members."

He added: "This represents an outright THREAT. All senators, all representatives, every American – without partisan consideration – should denounce this without delay and without qualification."

The Republican House speaker supported Trump's claim that the Democrats had participated in "treason", labeling the video as "wildly inappropriate", commenting: "It is very harmful, you have prominent officials of the legislature instructing military personnel to ignore directives, I think that's unprecedented in the nation's past."

The Conservative representative also allegedly stated to the press that in what he reviewed of Trump's messages, Trump was "defining the offense of rebellion" but that "lawyers have to parse the terminology and determine all that."

Administration Response

During a White House press conference on that day, when inquired by a reporter, "Would the president want to kill members of Congress?", the administration spokesperson responded: "Certainly not."

"It's important to note about what the president is addressing," the official stated. "You have current representatives of the US Congress who coordinated to arrange a digital communication to personnel of the US military, to current military personnel encouraging them to disobey the president's lawful orders."

She added: "The sanctity of our armed forces rests on the hierarchy, and if that structure is compromised, it can lead to people getting killed, it can result in confusion, and precisely what these congressional representatives ... are fundamentally promoting."
