A Mountain of Anime News Arrived During the Festive Season
The winter break offer a wealth of activities much better than catching up on the headlines: opening presents, getting stuffed on holiday treats, and employing meditation skills to not yelling at relatives. Hopefully you succeeded in enjoy all these things and more. However, the entertainment world doesn't go on vacation, and this is particularly true for the realm of anime. A slew of thrilling developments emerged over the holidays, and should you didn't see any, here is a summary of the biggest bits.
One-Punch Man Its Third Season Is Moving Forward (Come 2027)
Perhaps the most shocking announcement, the much-discussed controversial season that was the third season of One-Punch Man failed to deter further production. Season 3 will return with a follow-up batch of episodes in 2027—so far away they easily could have labeled it season 4. Even more shocking, the studio J.C. Staff will still be leading the project. At least this time, director Shinpei Nagai is set to direct from the outset, which is seen as a hopeful indicator. But, the key visual for the second cour is the same image the one used for season 3, just with protagonists Saitama and Garou oriented differently. This makes me think that, by now, they could be mocking the fans.
Ruri Dragon Will Be the Premiere Shonen Jump Anime By Kyoto Animation
Kyoto Animation has built a reputation for being an prestigious animation studio, setting itself apart not just for the high caliber of its productions but for the good working conditions of its employees—a sadly unusual standard in the industry. Curiously, until now, it had not adapted an anime stemming from a manga published in Shonen Jump, arguably the most iconic magazine in the industry. Ruri Dragon will end that streak, and what a great choice it is. The manga by Masaoki Shindo gained a huge following when it launched in 2022 after just a small number of issues, but then went into a two-year hiatus due to the mangaka's health issues. When it came back with a reduced workload, the series proved it still retained the fans' affection and goodwill, and now fans are thrilled about the impending KyoAni adaptation.
The Kingdom Series Season 6 Is Getting a Follow-Up Now in the Works
Kingdom is the best-selling, epic Shueisha manga that is not One Piece. If you've are unfamiliar with it before, it's because it only fairly recently obtained an English release, but the anime has been airing for a while, and season 6 was a further outstanding entry. It turns out that was just the first cour, because a "sequel" has been revealed as currently being made, and it will very likely air in 2026.
Science Saru Is Adapting A Witch in Mongolia To Anime
Another studio famous for the superior craftsmanship of its productions, Science Saru has brought us critically acclaimed works of the ilk of Space Dandy, Devilman Crybaby, and, lastly, Dandadan. This time, the studio will be handling the adaptation of Tomato Soup's manga A Witch's Life in Mongol, based on the actual historical person of Fatima, an powerful woman and intellectual in the Mongol Empire in the 13th century. Judging from the trailer, the anime called Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia will have a truly original and captivating visual style, which is somewhat reminiscent of Ranking of Kings. Set to premiere in July 2026, this one will without a doubt be on my list of anticipated shows.
Tougen Anki Will Continue With a Season Two
Right after the airing of the final episode of the first season, it was announced that Tougen Anki will be getting a second season. Inspired by the Japanese legend of Momotaro, Tougen Anki adapts the manga by Yura Urushibara.
